DC isolator switch for safely disconnecting solar PV arrays during maintenance and emergencies.
Description
The PV Solar Disconnect is a DC-rated isolator switch that provides a safe, visible means of disconnecting the solar panel array from the inverter, charge controller, or combiner box. Unlike AC switches, this isolator is specifically designed to break high-voltage DC circuits — which is significantly harder because DC arcs do not self-extinguish at zero crossings like AC arcs do. The enclosed rotary handle provides clear on/off indication and can be padlocked in the off position for lockout/tagout during maintenance. Required by electrical codes at multiple points in a PV system: between the array and inverter, and often at the roof penetration point. Weatherproof enclosure for outdoor installation near the solar panels.
